Torrere docs · What Torrere keeps about you
Torrere checks every recipe against your allergens
Torrere lets you declare any of 19 allergens, after you've agreed to how they're kept. From then on, every recipe Torrere writes or changes for you is written to leave them out, and every recipe is checked against them after each change and each time you open it. When the check finds one, Torrere tells you what it found and where. It never tells you a dish is safe: the label on the packet always wins.
Torrere knows 19 allergens
These are the allergens Torrere knows, as they appear on the screen: Barley, Celery, Cereals containing gluten, Coconut, Crustacean shellfish, Egg, Fish, Lupin, Milk, Molluscs, Mustard, Oats, Peanuts, Rye, Sesame, Soybeans, Sulphur dioxide and sulphites, Tree nuts, Wheat.
Choosing Cereals containing gluten in Torrere also covers wheat, rye, barley and oats. Coconut is separate from Tree nuts, so choosing Tree nuts doesn't include coconut. Torrere has no diet setting, for vegetarian cooking or anything else.
Torrere asks for your agreement before keeping them
An allergy is health information, so Torrere asks before keeping it. Set up allergens, on the Account screen, shows two screens: one on how Torrere keeps your allergens, which you agree to, and one on what the check can and can't do. Then you pick everything you react to and tap Save my allergens. You can change the list any time. Remove all my allergens and withdraw my agreement takes them all off and stops the check.
Torrere writes around your allergens
When Torrere writes a recipe or changes one in conversation, your allergens go with every message as a rule: none of them in any amount or any form, with something that works in its place and a sentence saying what was swapped. A recipe Torrere reads from your photos is written under the same rule. A new recipe read in from a link or pasted text is different: Torrere copies it as it was written, allergens included, and then checks it like any other. Cook around it, on the finding, changes it.
Torrere checks after every change and on every read
Torrere checks a recipe against your allergens after every change, after a change of servings, when a recipe is read in, and every time you open it, against the allergens you have now. So a recipe that passed before you added Sesame is checked again for sesame the next time you open it. The check reports and never blocks: a change always lands, and the finding sits beside it.
Torrere tells you what it found and where
A finding in Torrere is headed "Check this before you cook", or "Worth knowing" for something smaller, and names the allergen, like "Contains milk". It says which ingredient it's in. When an allergen is hidden in an ingredient whose name doesn't give it away, Torrere names that ingredient and says to check the packet, because recipes and brands vary. Cook around it asks Torrere to change the recipe so it leaves the allergen out.
Torrere's allergen check has limits
Torrere can only check the ingredients a recipe names, by their names. It can't see inside a packet, a brand's recipe or a kitchen where something else was made, and it can miss an ingredient it doesn't recognise. That's why Torrere never says a dish is safe, and why the label on the packet always wins. A recipe you share doesn't carry your allergens or the check's findings.
