Torrere docs
Torrere is a recipe app. Ask it for a dish and it writes the recipe, or bring one in from a link, a photo of a recipe card or pasted text. Then say what you'd change, and the recipe itself changes. These pages say what Torrere does today, with the real numbers and the real limits. Each one shows the day it was last checked against the app.
The same pages are on GitHub at github.com/Torrere/torrere, under a CC BY 4.0 license, so you can quote them as long as you say where they came from.
Getting a recipe in Torrere
- Torrere writes the recipe when you ask for a dishHow Torrere writes a recipe from scratch when you ask for a dish: when it asks first, how it orders the steps and the waiting, how many it serves, and what happens once it's written.
- Torrere reads a recipe from a linkHow Torrere reads a recipe from a web address, how many of 100 popular recipe sites it read in its latest monthly test, and the limits on what it can open.
- Torrere reads some sites from your phoneWhat Torrere does when a recipe site answers with a browser check, refuses, rate-limits or asks not to be read, on the web and in the phone apps.
- Torrere read 86 of 100 recipe sitesWhich of 100 popular recipe sites Torrere could read a recipe from on September 22, 2026, which answered with a browser check or a refusal, what each site's robots.txt tells other companies' crawlers, and how the test was run.
- Torrere reads a photo of a recipe cardHow Torrere reads a photo of a recipe card or a cookbook page: up to 4 photos per message, what happens to the photo, and how Torrere asks about what it couldn't read.
- Torrere reads a recipe you paste inHow Torrere reads a recipe you paste as text: what counts as a recipe, how long a paste can be, and what the messages mean when it can't read one.
- Torrere brings recipes over one at a time, as a link or as textHow to bring recipes into Torrere from Paprika, Mela, Copy Me That, AnyList or ReciMe. Torrere doesn't open their export files, so each recipe comes over as its original link or as copied text.
Changing a recipe
- Torrere changes the recipe when you say what you'd changeHow changing a recipe in Torrere works: say what you'd change, the recipe itself changes, and a change card lists exactly what went in and what came out.
- Torrere scales a recipe exactly and checks the methodHow Torrere scales a recipe from 1 to 99 servings, counts in the recipe's own unit (egg bites, pies, loaves), keeps amounts exact, and reviews the method for big changes.
- Torrere writes every recipe in your unitsTorrere's three unit settings (liquids, weights, temperature), how they change every recipe at once including the steps, and what Torrere doesn't convert.
- Torrere undoes one change and puts back what it replacedHow undo works in Torrere: any change card can be undone on its own, undo puts back what the change replaced, and every change is a numbered version of the recipe.
Cooking from a recipe
- Torrere shows a recipe one step at a timeHow cooking from a recipe in Torrere works: one step at a time, what to get out before each part, the oven heated at the right moment, and your place kept when the recipe changes.
- Torrere sets a timer from what the step saysHow timers work in Torrere's cook mode: read from the step's own wording, several at once, kept through a reload, and ringing only while the app is open.
What Torrere keeps about you
- Torrere remembers only what you let itWhat Torrere remembers about you and your conversations: a cook profile of up to 40 facts you approve one by one, the last four exchanges of each recipe's chat, and how to remove any of it.
- Torrere checks every recipe against your allergensHow allergens work in Torrere: 19 you can declare, an agreement first, a check on every change and every read, and why Torrere reports what it finds rather than calling a dish safe.
Your recipes and your account
- Torrere shares a recipe as a link anyone can openHow sharing a recipe from Torrere works: a free link to a copy of the recipe anyone can open without an account, taken down whenever you like, and never listed in search engines.
- Torrere keeps your recipes on every device you sign in toWhere your recipes live in Torrere: Saved recipes on every device you sign in to, renaming and forgetting a recipe, reading offline, and getting a copy of all of them.
- Chef is Torrere's subscription, with a free week on the webWhat Chef, Torrere's subscription, costs and includes, what works without it, how the free week works on the web and on phones, and how to cancel.
- Torrere deletes your account at once, and it can't be undoneHow to delete your Torrere account from the app or by email, what the deletion removes, the little that's kept afterwards, and why a subscription has to be cancelled separately.
