Torrere sets a timer from what the step says
Every step card in Torrere's cook mode has a timer button. When the step states a time, the timer starts from it; when it doesn't, the timer opens at 5 minutes. Several can run at once. Each timer counts against the clock, so it stays right through a reload, but it only rings while Torrere is open. Torrere sends no notifications, so a locked phone stays quiet.
Torrere reads the time from the step's wording
When a step in Torrere says "simmer for 15 minutes", the timer button at the top of that card shows 15m. Torrere also understands "half an hour", "an hour", "an hour and a half" and "a minute". For a range like "3-4 minutes" the timer starts at the lower end, 3 minutes, and keeps the step's own "3-4 min" as its label. When a step mentions more than one time, the others appear as buttons under the dial. Times under 5 seconds or over 24 hours are ignored.
Torrere lets you adjust a timer before you start it
The timer button opens a dial with − and + either side of the time, and Start timer below. On a timer of 10 minutes or more, − and + move in 5-minute steps. Between 1 and 10 minutes they move a minute at a time, and under a minute, 15 seconds at a time. Torrere won't go below 15 seconds. Once you've moved the dial, Torrere shows what the step says, with Reset to go back to it.
Torrere runs several timers at once
Each running timer in Torrere is a small bar with the part's name (or "Oven") and the time left, in minutes and seconds, so an hour and a half reads 90:00. The × on a bar cancels it. When a timer finishes it reads "done" and flashes until you press Clear. Running timers only show inside cook mode. If you close cook mode they keep counting and still ring, and you'll see them again when you reopen it.
Torrere keeps timers through a reload
A Torrere timer stores the moment it ends, not a countdown, so reloading the app or reopening it brings every timer back with the right time left. A timer that finished while Torrere was closed comes back marked done, without a beep. Finished timers are dropped 12 hours after they end. Timers are kept on the device you started them on.
Torrere only rings while it's open
When a timer finishes, Torrere plays three short beeps, and vibrates on devices that allow it, which doesn't include iPhone. Torrere sends no notifications, on the web or in the apps, so a timer can't ring while the phone is locked or Torrere is in the background. Keep cook mode open on screen while something is timing. Cook mode asks the device to keep the screen on, as cook mode explains.
