Torrere docs · Changing a recipe
Torrere changes the recipe when you say what you'd change
Tell Torrere what you'd change, in your own words: less butter, no mushrooms, a longer simmer, the sauce made in the pan the chicken came out of. Torrere changes the recipe itself, not a chat log you'd have to scroll back through. Each change arrives as a card listing exactly which ingredients and steps went in, came out or changed, and each card can be undone on its own.
Torrere changes ingredients, steps and parts
Torrere can add or remove an ingredient, change an amount, add a step, reword one, move one or remove one, add or remove a whole part of the dish (a sauce, a topping), move a part, rename the recipe, and change what it makes. Several of those can happen in one reply, so "split the second step in two" or "do the steps in this order" works as a set of changes made together. Removing a part takes its ingredients with it. Removing a step takes the ingredients only that step used, and leaves the ones another step still needs.
Torrere asks rather than guesses
When nothing Torrere can do matches what you asked, or it needs something you haven't said, Torrere asks. A question usually comes with two to five answers to tap, plus Other and Choose for me. Torrere doesn't swap in a different change that's close to what you meant. An amount it can't read is kept as a line marked as not understood, never turned into a number Torrere made up.
Torrere shows every change on a card
After each change, Torrere shows a card with a one-line summary, and Get Cooking and Ingredients buttons. Open Details on the card to see the version number and every line that moved: an ingredient added, removed or changed from one amount to another, and each step added, removed, moved or reworded. For a reworded step, the card shows the new wording. When no ingredient moved, the card says "Nothing on the shopping list moved."
Torrere keeps every change all-or-nothing
A reply from Torrere either changes the recipe completely or not at all. If any part of it can't be applied, nothing is saved and a note says "Couldn't apply that". If the recipe changed while Torrere was working, from another device say, the note says "The recipe moved", and asking again picks up the newest version.
Torrere keeps servings and names separate from chat
Changing how many a recipe serves is done with the servings control in Torrere, not by asking in chat: servings and scaling explains it. Renaming a recipe yourself is on Saved recipes, where each recipe has Rename. A name you give it this way isn't a change card, so it has no undo.
Torrere writes every change in your units
Amounts are written as a recipe would write them and Torrere does the conversions, exactly, in the units you chose. Units has the settings. Undo is on every change card; undo and versions says what it puts back.
